Nine newborn baby lambs (6 girls and 3 boys), born around 2/11, were in urgent need of rescue after being "discarded" by a local meat farm. They are the "unwanted" babies. That is, unwanted by the farmers who want first-time mother sheep to nurse only one baby. Yet, sheep commonly give birth to 2-3 babies.
Notice the bright color spray paint on their heads? Although to the average person it looks "cute", it is a callous way that the farmers mark the unwanted babies. When we picked them up, (the farm had them dropped off at another location, so we did not see the mother sheep or their living conditions), they were dirty and still had traces of dried afterbirth (a sign that they were taken away from their mothers.)
We haven’t named them all yet, but so far….
