Sanctuary Assistant -
JOB HAS BEEN FILLED.

 

Job Type: Full time, 40 hours per week. Schedule fluctuates and includes weekends.

Reports To: Deborah Blum, Executive Director

Position Objectives:

The Sanctuary Assistant will be responsible for helping Deborah with all operational aspects of the sanctuary including administrative support, assisting with animal care on occasion, helping plan and execute special events, running sanctuary errands, and special projects. They will be working very closely with Deborah.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who loves a diverse and daily-changing job, is entrepreneurial in spirit, and wants to learn all aspects of running a business and an animal sanctuary. We’re looking for someone who enjoys work, can think creatively, and loves to be around both people and animals. There is also potential for growth in this position as we grow as an organization.

Responsibilities include these main areas:

  • Administrative Support, Event Planning, Errands and Projects, and Tours & Events
  • Administrative work including answering emails and voicemails, merchandise order fulfillment, booking tours and events, etc. when needed.
  • Help Deborah to plan and execute special events of all types
  • Assist with sanctuary related errands and tasks including feed store runs, animal food pickup, supplies purchasing, cleaning, etc.
  • Work on special projects of all sorts
  • Be trained and occasionally lead tours of the sanctuary, both private and group tours.

  • Passionate about working for, and with, all types of farm animals
  • Strong office skills and attention to detail are a must
  • Strong work ethic and ability
  • Animal care experience is a plus
  • Keen interest in the animal welfare and animal rights movement is encouraged
  • A friendly, positive, outgoing demeanor
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Team player and strong self motivator
  • An upbeat, positive and friendly personality is key
  • Ability to follow directions
  • Able to learn and process new information quickly
  • Ability to multi-task and handle multiple things at once
  • Reliable and dependable
  • Able to lift 40-50 pounds and perform strenuous/manual labor is preferred
  • Works well with a variety of people including staff, volunteers and visitors
  • Willing to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and with varying shift times
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record (subject to verification)
  • Goatlandia is a plant-based sanctuary and as such, no animal products are allowed on the property.



Working Conditions:

Some of the work is physical and performed primarily outdoors, with some duties performed indoors. Outdoor duties will involve working in all weather conditions, including cold/wet weather (average low is 45F) and hot summers (average high is 80-90F).

Office working environment will be artificial light, equipment used includes standard office equipment i.e. computer, printer, telephone and copy machine. There are animals at Goatlandia so there is occasional exposure to sick or injured animals, and possible exposure to parasites and infectious diseases, some of which are zoonotic.

Driving will be required, and use of company vehicle is available for company tasks.
